Jim Bowers

Jim Bowers is a self-described “not-often-enough-singer/songwriter.” His most recent CD is “Seeking Calm Waters.” Over the years, Jim has nibbled around the edges of the Rochester music community performing mainly as a solo artist, hosting an open mic at the now-closed Starry Nites Café, and pretty much going his own way. His songs are as independent minded as he is. Along with returning to songwriting, Jim has formed a new band called “Re-Possessed” which performs what he calls “Cosmic American Music Plus.”  Jim’s biggest songwriting influences are Gordon Lightfoot, Kris Kristofferson, and Michael Nesmith.

 Steve Piper

Steve Piper is a familiar name at Abilene. Known for both his masterful guitar playing and songwriting, Steve is a member of two popular music groups—"Watkins & the Rapiers” and “The Spring Chickens.” His most recent songwriting undertaking is his new two-disk CD “Twice” that contains 23 songs Steve wrote and recorded throughout the pandemic. Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt are among Steve’s favorite songwriters. Their influences are seen in Steve’s songs.

 Jake Wren

Jake Wren is a singer-songwriter and music historian from Rochester, NY. Jake is interested in how music can convey historical and political truths to audiences. Jake’s songs draw upon the historically-minded political activism of folk artists such as Woody Guthrie, but also grasp for the authentic American intimacy of writers and performers such as John Prine, Doc Watson, Townes Van Zandt, and Jimmie Rodgers. His songs are often a medium for telling stories that highlight fleeting notions of rambling, regret, and loneliness. In 2022, Jake was voted one of the Top 4 Country and Folk Artists in Rochester.
