“Sweetheart of the Rodeo” celebration, performed by The Gregory Street Pilgrims

  • Abilene Bar & Lounge 153 Liberty Pole Way Rochester, NY, 14604 United States (map)

Doors 4pm, Music 7:30pm

This show was so great that we’re presenting it once again!

Celebrate the upcoming 56th anniversary of “Sweetheart of the Rodeo,” as performed by some of Rochester’s best musicians, The Gregory Street Pilgrims.

Although The Byrds were no strangers to country twang, back in the late 60s they were leaning pretty psychedelic. With the addition of Gram Parsons in '68, and inspired by the artistry of folks like Merle Haggard, The Louvin Brothers, Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, the rockers returned to their country Americana roots.

“Sweetheart of the Rodeo” was far from a commercial success for the Byrds. Nonetheless, it has always been recognized as a well-crafted, and essential recording in almost every musician's vinyl collection.

Seasoned pickers and grinners, Brian Burley, Jim Via, Eric Davidson, Herb Heins, and Dana Gregory will attempt to recreate and celebrate the 55th anniversary of this iconic treasure. A handful of Flying Burrito Brother gems along with some country classics will round out the event.
