Hello!!

We are currently working on a full-length documentary film about the Henrie family. Three girls and five boys that grew up together in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. The 5 boys (now men in their 60’s) taught each other as kids/teenagers to play ‘old-time’ Appalachian string music. They became known as the Henrie Brothers String Band.

This string band is best remembered for the music that filled many a square dance, barn, field, living room, tavern, arts festival, music festival and concert hall.

This film is meant to tell the story of a family through the lens of their music, and you were sent this email because someone is suggesting that you may be of some help.

We are seeking archival images - especially any footage (film, video, etc.) of the Henrie Brothers from the 1970s and 1980s and we would like to hear from anyone who might be of some help.

Venues where such images may have been produced during that period include various music festivals and ‘Fiddler’s Conventions’, such as Galax, Union Grove, Mecklenburg, Mount Airy, Wheatland, Ann Arbor Fest and many others.

Any images or footage from the 1976 Galax Fiddler’s Convention – where they won first prize as teenagers – would be particularly desirable!

If you possess any such materials or know where they might exist, we ask that you to reach out via the email or website link below and let us know how we may contact you.

If you think that you might know anyone that might be of some help in directing our search, simply send us their email address and we will send them this very same message.  If you choose to forward this email to someone (rather than send us their email) please delete anything above the original content of this message and then put our email:  downonhenriesfarm@gmail.com  in the Cc address line. That will help us ensure the success of this email campaign!
