Happy Hour with Nick Young & The Less Fortunate

Doors 4:00pm • Music 5:30pm

In anticipation of Ken Burn's Country Music documentary series, WXXI is proud to a media partner for this Abilene Bar & Lounge concert with NICK YOUNG on Tuesday, September 10 at 5:30 p.m.

"A WXXI "Country Music" Series Pre-Party!!!

NICK YOUNG & THE LESS FORTUNATE are a four-piece band led (unsurprisingly) by Rochester based singer/songwriter Nick Young. While Nick handles lead vocals and guitar, the lineup is rounded out by Jeff Simpson (The Genesee Revelers) on bass, Steve Nelson (Blue Jimmy) on drums and Chad Ayers (Blue Jimmy, The Ayers Bros) on lead guitar/vocals. The band’s sound & set list draws heavily from both alternative country & the country rock sound of Gram Parsons with some classic country thrown in for good measure. For this all covers Happy Hour set, expect to hear songs by artists like Wilco, Old 97s and The Bottle Rockets as well as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and George Jones…oh, and bring your dancing shoes.

“A stripped-down Americana and lush pop smoothie. Yeah, there's a splash of country sour mash too, but it doesn't require boots and a hat."
~Rochester City Newspaper

"Fresh & boisterous alt-country."
~Portland Phoenix

"Young writes and performs my favorite kind of music – Americana/Alt-Country/Roots/The New Sincerity/Whatever the Hell You Call It. Formerly the frontman for Rochester’s Burning Daylight, Young just released his first solo album, 'Truth Is'. If you’re fond of pedal steel guitars and twang, and post-Replacements Paul Westerberg, pick it up."
~Nick Zaino (Boston Music Critic)
